As a nonprofit organization, TransFair USA depends on a team of dedicated interns and volunteers to enhance the impact of its employee staff. TransFair invites committed and qualified individuals to join in changing the way the world does business. Qualified applicants should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple tasks. Educational or work/volunteer experience in a relevant area is preferred.
Internships
TransFair USA offers compelling, educational and occupational experiences for students, recent graduates and transitioning professionals as volunteer interns. Interns have the opportunity to work in an office setting with a talented group of individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of family farmers and workers around the world.
Interns have access to a diverse array of projects and assignments that complement educational curriculum in a variety of areas. Recent college graduates and transitioning professionals are also welcome to apply. Interns are a valued part of the staff, and TransFair is committed to creating mutually beneficial opportunities for interns to engage their intellect and passion to further the cause of Fair Trade.
Schedule: TransFair internships require a minimum commitment of hours per week and duration of service. The typical minimum is 15 hours per week for 10 weeks, preferably as two 7.5 hour days per week. Some positions require a greater or lesser number of hours or weeks depending on the complexity of the project or assignment. The maximum duration of an internship is 25 weeks. In most cases internship days and hours can be scheduled to accommodate academic studies or part-time employment. TransFair’s office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
Compensation/ Credit: Internship positions are non-paid. However TransFair does provide financial reimbursement for daily, local commuter expenses. Funding may also be available through scholastic Work-Study or other employment grants programs. Check with your school’s financial aid and career placement offices. TransFair’s staff may be able to assist you design an internship assignment that meets requirements for academic credit from your school. If you would like to propose an internship with one of our departments, contact the human resources department.
Visas: TransFair welcomes international applicants to our listed internships. In all cases, English fluency is required. TransFair is not authorized to sponsor US Work or Student Visa applications directly. There are a variety of agencies that provide intermediary services, such as Intrax Career Development in San Francisco.
Volunteering
If you are unable to meet the time requirement of an internship but are interested in assisting with general support tasks and projects in the Oakland CA office, contact volunteer@transfairusa.org.
