Overview of Internship:
This internship will provide exposure to proactive media relations, strategic communications, press release and pitch letter writing, media events and cross-promotional opportunities, all aimed toward promoting the Fair Trade Certified label and increase consumer awareness. Special focus will be on planning media efforts to both consumer and trade media. All tasks will help you to prepare for a career in public relations as you will be exposed to every aspect of creating an effective campaign.
Primary responsibilities may include any or all of the following:
- Support with press events
- Support with writing, media pitching, fulfillment around promotional campaigns
- Ongoing support with press relations, including managing press tools and conducting regular product/informational mailings
- Assistance with press inquiries, including fact-checking and research
- Liaise with grassroots on community-focused PR
Requirements: Candidates must display excellent verbal and written English communication skills, as well as a keen interest in learning more about public relations and the sustainable food industry. A writing sample will be required as part of the application process. Organizational skills a must. Experience or training in any of the following would also be helpful: press release writing, journalism, graphic design, event management.
