First Fair Trade Certified Preserves in the United States Presented at the Green Festival in Chicago

Honor, MI - April 18, 2007 - Food For Thought Inc., a creator of gourmet organic and wildharvested specialty foods based in Honor,Michigan is launching the first line of fruit preserves in the U.S. to be made with certified Fair Trade sugar.

The new line will be officially presented at the Chicago Green Festival on April 21st and 22nd where Food For Thought will have booths 3041 and 3043.

Award winning gourmet preserves. Food For Thought's award winning organic wine and herb infused fruit preserves were chosen to use Fair Trade Certified* sugar. Some of the flavors include Organic Blackberry Shiraz, Organic Strawberry Basil and Organic Cherry Cabernet. In addition, organic fair trade sugar is added to wildharvested delights such as Wild Autumnberry.

Why Fair Trade?
Fair Trade Certified products support a better life for farming families in the developing world through fair prices, direct trade, community development and environmental stewardship. Food For Thought uses organic fair trade sugar from Paraguay provided by Wholesome Sweeteners. Until signing Fair Trade agreements, many farmers' kids in Tebicuary, Paraguay worked in the fields and horses pulled cane carts. Today, the kids are in school and a tractor does all of the pulling.

First Fair Trade Certified Preserves approved by TransFair USA

TransFair USA, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, is one of nineteen members of Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO), and the only independent, third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in the United States. It audits transactions between U.S. companies offering Fair Trade Certified* products and the international suppliers from whom they source, in order to guarantee that the farmers and farm workers behind Fair Trade Certified goods were paid a fair, above-market price. In addition, annual inspections conducted by FLO ensure that strict socioeconomic development criteria are being met using increased Fair Trade revenues.
