Press Releases Tully's Coffee Now Exclusively Serves 100% Fair Trade Certified™ and Organic Espresso Specialty Coffee Retailer Further Supports Farmers and Environment with New Espresso Blend SEATTLE, Wash. October 1, 2007 – Tully's Coffee Corporation (Tully's), a fully handcrafted coffee roaster, announced today that all espresso beverages served in its stores will now be made exclusively with 100% Fair Trade Certified and Organic Espresso. This change represents the first and largest commitment to Fair Trade Certified and Organic Espresso by a multi-unit coffee house retailer, including over 90 company-owned stores that will now serve the new espresso blend. Tully's has also made the new espresso available to its franchised stores and expects all to be converted by the end of the year. Currently there are 48 Tully's franchised stores. Tully's first introduced Fair Trade Certified and Organic Espresso at the University of Washington in 2006 after collaboration with the Fair Trade Coffee Coalition, a student-run alliance and advocate of Fair Trade products on campus. The espresso blend was then introduced as a pilot program in Tully's San Francisco area locations in April, 2007. "The switch to Fair Trade Certified and Organic Espresso represents Tully's commitment to advance our goals in becoming a more socially responsible, environmentally aware organization," said John Buller, President and CEO of Tully's Coffee Corporation. "This company has a long history of supporting its growers by paying at or above the floor price set by TransFair USA for our premium coffees. By developing a Fair Trade Certified and Organic Espresso, we are making an even greater statement of support to our co-op farms and our planet." Tully's has partnered with TransFair USA, the only third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in the United States, for the certification of its new espresso blend. TransFair USA enables sustainable development and community empowerment by cultivating a more equitable global trade model that benefits farmers, workers, consumers, industry and the earth. "We are delighted that Tully's is taking a leadership role by firmly aligning the Tully's brand with Fair Trade Certified coffee," said Paul Rice, CEO of TransFair USA. "Tully's significant commitment to fair trade shows that you can give consumers a great product while still paying farmers a fair wage and taking care of the environment. By embracing Fair Trade Certified coffee, Tully's is helping customers make a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of family farmers."
