Importers
Core requirements for licensed Vanilla importers:
- Sign a Fair Trade Vanilla License/Certification agreement in order to become an authorized importer, selling Fair Trade Certified Vanilla
- Purchase Vanilla from producer groups or exporters certified by or registered with TransFair USA’s umbrella organization, the Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO)
- When purchasing vanilla beans from FLO registered producers, pay at least the Fair Trade minimum price and the Fair Trade premium. The minimum prices and premiums follow the international standards set by FLO:

- If the market price rises above these levels, the Fair Trade minimum rises to the market price. The Fair Trade premiums must then be paid on top of the market price.
- Pay a certification fee to TransFair USA of US$2.50/lb on Fair Trade Certified Vanilla purchases.
- Submit reports on a quarterly basis describing all Fair Trade Certified purchases and sales. Provide supporting documentation of all Fair Trade Certified purchases (contracts, bill of lading, and proof of wire transfer of the Fair Trade premium to FLO) made directly from Vanilla producers.
On request of the producer organization, make available up to 60% of the value of the contract in pre-financing or other credit facilities.
