Fair
Trade Guatemalan Wins Coffee Review Supermarket
Cupping
In a June 2003 Coffee Review article entitled "Pursuing
Quality at the Supermarket," coffee quality guru
Ken Davids reports on a blind cupping of coffees
pulled from the shelves of supermarkets in New York
City. The winner? Bucks County Coffee's Fair Trade
Certified Organic Guatemalan, which scored an impressive
94. "This extraordinary coffee should seduce just
about everyone," Davids writes in his review. The
coffee, produced by the Asobagri farmers cooperative
in Huehuetenango, is one of four Fair Trade Certified
coffees |
| offered
by Bucks County in a number of supermarket chains.

Fair Trade's debut at LOHAS 7th Annual Conference
Interest in Fair Trade Certified products was high at
this year's LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability)
7th Annual Market Trends Conference and Trade Fair, held
in Colorado from June 18-19. The LOHAS market is estimated
to represent a $230 billion marketplace for goods and
services that appeal to consumers who value health, the
environment, social justice, personal development and
sustainable living. As Fair Trade continues to gain wider
support in the mainstream, the Fair Trade model was given
the spotlight when TransFair's own Paul Rice spoke on
a panel with industry visionaries such as Perry Odak (Wild
Oats) and Bob Stiller (Green Mountain Coffee Roasters).
