Fair Trade Advent Calendar

Spread the goodwill and holiday cheer with a Fair Trade advent calendar from Divine Chocolate USA, which is co-owned by the Kuapa Kokoo cocoa cooperative in Ghana. The calendar includes Fair Trade chocolate hearts behind a nativity scene and the story of Divine Chocolate on the back. This is another great way to have a Fair Trade holiday season!

Winning Campaigns
Fair Trade Towns USA

October saw the successful launch of the national Fair Trade Towns campaign. It also proved an ideal occasion for the launch of two new Fair Trade Towns. This October, Milwaukee, WI became the third town to declare and the first large city. On November 7th, Amherst, MA became the fourth Fair Trade Town and the first in Massachusetts. Congratulations Milwaukee and Amherst! Visit www.FairTradeTownsUSA.org to learn how to make your town a Fair Trade Town.

Producer Spotlight
Kuapa Kokoo

Kuapa Kokoo is a cocoa producer cooperative founded in Ghana in 1993. It represents a unique empowerment effort that enables small cocoa farmers to have a voice in government and attain more information regarding their dealings with cocoa buyers. Kuapa Kokoo has been Fair Trade certified by Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) since 2002, and owns 45% of Divine Chocolate, which sells Fair Trade Certified chocolates in the UK and US. This unique venture not only allows Kuapa Kokoo's members to receive a fair price for their cocoa, but they share in the companies profits as well. Kuapa Kokoo's motto is "papapaa," which means "the best of the best!"

From TransFair USA
Consumer Awareness of Fair Trade Certified™ Continues to Grow

The results of the National Coffee Association's National Coffee Drinking Trends survey are in and they show that awareness of Fair Trade Certified continues to grow! Consumer Awareness of Fair Trade is at 27% in 2007. In 2003, only 7% of consumers were aware of Fair Trade. That means awareness has almost quadrupled in four years!
