Honest Tea Launches Just Black Tea and Just Green Tea
Honest Tea is now offering Just Black Tea and Just Green Tea, the first organic Fair Trade Certified unsweetened tea on the market. Honest Tea has built a strong relationship with the Makaibari estate, which provides much of Honest Tea’s Fair Trade Certified tea. Fair Trade premiums have gone to support many important initiatives. For example, tea plantation workers voted to use Fair Trade premiums to establish a computer center for the use of estate workers and their children. The Makaibari Computer Center opened with two computers, internet access, and a printer, and is available to anyone in the Makaibari village. Already over 200 children have enrolled in the computer school, where they are learning critical skills that would otherwise be beyond their reach due to the high cost. Read more here.

TransFair certifies 100 Million Pounds of coffee since 1998
Right now, somewhere in America, someone is sipping a cup of Joe made from the 100-millionth pound of Fair Trade Certified™ coffee. Since 1998, TransFair USA has certified well over 100 million pounds of coffee. The record growth of Fair Trade Certified coffee – an annual average of 75% – can be attributed to a wide range of supporters: mission-driven Alternative Trade Organizations (ATOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and student campaigners; from small boutique roasters and cafes, to large mainstream retailers, restaurants and club stores; and of course conscientious U.S. consumers, who’ve spent over $1 billion on Fair Trade Certified coffee, sending nearly $75 million in above-market revenue to small-scale coffee farmers in developing countries worldwide. Read the press release here. |

To what lengths will a San Francisco musician go to promote Fair Trade? |
 |
“When I receive an email from an unsuspecting music fan who asks to buy my Devil Dub CD, I respond "yes", but only for a Fair Trade. After providing them with a weblink to an introduction to Fair Trade, I include links to locations in their area where they can purchase Fair Trade products. All they have to do is buy ANY Fair Trade Certified product and send it to me and I'll send back a CD.” - House
