Fair Trade Flowers for Florists
Sourcing Fair Trade Certified Flowers
Fair Trade Certified farms grow some of the finest, most exciting varieties of roses and carnations in the world. You’ll also find a selection of other flowers, greens and fillers from our African farms.
- Start by asking your wholesaler(s) if they carry Fair Trade Certified flowers. These wholesalers may carry Fair Trade Certified flowers. Remember to look for the Fair Trade Certified label on the stems or sleeves as your guarantee of authenticity.
- If your wholesaler does not carry Fair Trade Certified flowers, have them contact our licensed importers for information on availability and pricing.
- If your wholesaler would like to source Fair Trade Certified flowers from their existing importer who is not yet licensed, please have that importer review the requirements for becoming a Fair Trade Certified importer and contact TransFair USA for a license agreement (flowers@transfairusa.org)
- It may take some time to persuade a wholesaler to carry Fair Trade Certified flowers if the other florists they serve have not asked for it. Encourage your wholesaler to bring in Fair Trade Certified flowers as a limited time offer to see how it goes.
Selling Fair Trade Certified Flowers
Florists play an essential role educating consumers about Fair Trade Certified flowers and ensuring the integrity of the Fair Trade Certified label. Thank you for your attention to the follow guidelines:
- Fair Trade Certified flowers purchased in bulk will come with small Fair Trade Certified stickers on each stem.
- Fair Trade Certified flowers purchased as consumer bunches or ready-made bouquets will have the Fair Trade Certified label on the sleeve.
- You can use Fair Trade Certified flowers in your arrangements. If you chose not to market the arrangement as Fair Trade Certified, you can either leave the stem stickers on or take them off, and there are no further requirements.
- If you would like to advertise that the arrangement contains Fair Trade Certified flowers, you must carefully follow the Label Use Guidelines
