Make Your Holiday Parties Fair Trade Parties!

Bake for a Better World: Make your favorite sugar cookies with Fair Trade Certified sugar (if you don't know where to find it, check here, and click the "sugar" box). Turn your gingerbread people into socially conscious messages: use a small circle-cutter (like a clean thimble) to make the Fair Trade Certified logo by placing a round basket in each hand of your gingerbread farmer (you can find a full-page printout of the logo here).

Party Favors in Favor of Change: Whether you are hosting a casual gathering of coworkers or your kids' red-cheeked friends expecting holiday fun, it is easy to pass on a message of hope that is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Several Fair Trade Certified cocoa producers offer mini-sized bars to stuff in gift bags (or stockings!), so don't settle for anything less than Fair Trade cocoa. For minis, try Divine Chocolate and Equal Exchange to start.

The Taste of Hope: We know winter is here when the house smells of sweet spice and our wind-nipped fingers clutch hot mugs of steaming goodness. Branch out from your traditional favorites to taste the hope of Fair Trade for farmers in developing countries: serve your guests Choice Organic Tea's Orange Spice tea, spiced with cinnamon, clove, and ginger, paired with Green & Black's Maya Gold chocolate with festive orange flecks.

Fair Trade Fashion Flaunting: Throw a party where all your guests are challenged to flaunt some kind of Fair Trade Fashion - a good place to start would be a craft bazaar that sells Fair Trade products, or an online Fair Trade gift store (check out our Fair Trade Gifts Resource page ). Hand out door prizes for the most eco-ethically styling guests: a $5 gift card to your favorite Fair Trade coffee shop, or a canvas bag with an "I (Heart) Fair Trade" iron-on logo (available for order here).

Socialite Conscious: When you are exchanging invites for holiday entertaining, spread some cheer beyond your circle by serving ethically produced wine (not yet Fair Trade Certified, this product is available from our partner at Etica Fair Trade). Competitively priced but consciously created—and delicious!—these wines will get conversations flowing. Print your invitations on recycled paper, or scrap paper altogether and send E-vites (use an email "signature" that directs your contacts to your favorite Fair Trade company or product, like this one!
