The outlined programs below are intended for an evening house party, although the format can be modified for any hour of the day. We have used formats similar to this in the past successfully. At minimum, they may help you think through your ideas.
| 6:30 - 7:00 |
Welcome guests, have them sign-in. Consider having nametags if the group is over 10 and people don't know each other very well. Mingle, eat and casual conversation. |
| 7:00 - 7:10 |
Host Introduction:
Welcome your guests, thank them for coming and briefly let them know why you were compelled to invite them to watch a movie that addresses Fair Trade.
|
| 7:10 - 7:20 |
Guest Introductions:
Have group members introduce themselves (if the group is less than 25), why were they interested in coming? (This is also a nice way to build community among your guests that may not all know one another.) If you wish, ask them if they have heard of Fair Trade and Fair Trade Certified products. |
| 7:20 - 8:30 |
Show Film. |
| 8:30 - 8:50 |
Talk as a group about the movie. Use our Film Discussion Points as a guide for your conversation. Discuss why Fair Trade and an organization like TransFair USA are important. Share the one page document Making Globalization Work for Everyone with your guests. Follow the discussion with:
- Where have you seen FTC products?
- Where would you like to see FTC products?
- How can you help increase demand for these products?
- How can you further support the Fair Trade movement?
|
| 8:00 - 8:05 |
Close the evening by thanking your guests for coming and inviting them to make a donation to support TransFair USA. Use the Tips on Raising Money from Family and Friends as a guide. |
| 8:05 - 8:10 |
Answer any additional questions. Refer them to brochures and remind them of what the Fair Trade Certified label looks like. |
