As part of the pioneering efforts of Portland Public Schools, Atkinson
Elementary School 4th & 5th graders will get a chance to practice
their Spanish speaking skills with Fair Trade coffee farmer Arminda
Trochez from Nicaragua. This revolutionary school has Spanish immersion
classes where students speak between 70-90% of their class time
in Spanish and the other 10-30% in English. This elementary school
also engages students in multidisciplinary projects such as multi-cultural
