"Humanizing Supply and Demand: Perspectives on Fair Trade from Farm to Shelf"
Small-scale farmers around the world - from Belize, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador to Ethiopia, India and Vietnam - typically receive very low prices for the cocoa, coffee, tea, bananas and other crops they produce. Access to the Fair Trade market has provided additional income to hundreds of thousands of otherwise marginalized producers throughout the developing world, enabling them to feed their families, send their children to school and pay for housing and health care.
This panel proudly features a farmer from a Fair Trade Certified cooperative, as well as other key actors in the Fair Trade global supply chain. Contact Jonathan Jacoby at jjacoby06@gsb.columbia.edu for more details.

Fair Trade Puget Sound
Monday, October 20 - 22
Fair Trade Puget Sound will be launching a citywide campaign to promote fair trade certified coffee by hosting the visit of Msgr. Alvaro Ramazzini, Bishop of San Marcos, Guatemala, to Seattle area campuses and churches from Oct. 20-22. Bishop Ramazzini will deliver a lecture entitled “Globalizing Solidarity: Fair Trade and Coffee Farmers in Guatemala,” as part of Seattle University’s Justice Education Forum on Thursday, October 20th, at 7 pm in Pigott Auditorium on the SU campus. He will also speak at UW and at Christ the King church on October 21st, and will be available to talk to the media. The purpose of his visit is to help launch Fair Trade Puget Sound’s campaign to make Seattle the first Fair Trade City in the United States by focusing on the beverage for which we are famous -- coffee.
Fair Trade Puget Sound is a coalition of community groups, businesses, NGOs, faith communities, students, and individuals who have come together to spearhead an effort to educate local consumers about fair trade coffee. We aim to measurably increase the availability and consumption of Fair Trade Certified™ coffee within Seattle and throughout the greater Puget Sound area, through outreach and education to encourage responsible consumerism.
With questions about these activities, or to schedule an interview with the Bishop, contact Angelina Godoy at 206-616-3585 or angelina.godoy@gmail.com
